Anaeho'omalu Bay - A charming palm-lined beach on the South Kohala coast

Fondly called the A-Bay by the locals, Anaeho'omalu Bay is a palm fringed beach, featuring shallow waters and salt and pepper sand which is actually a mixture of white sand and fine volcanic ash.  It is located on the South Kohala coast on the island of Hawaii. This beach is popular for its spectacular sunsets and snorkeling. If you are looking for a peaceful and less crowded beach, this might be the one you are looking for.

Aside from palms, there are numerous gnarly trees that provide shade and perfect spots for picnics. At the southern end of the bay is an old pahoehoe lava flow, an interesting reminder of how the Hawaiian coastline is continually changing because of volcanic activity.

Beside swimming and snorkeling, there are other water activities available such as kayaking and glass bottom boat rides. The water is teeming with Pacific sea life and if you are lucky, you can see turtles swimming all over the place or sunbathing on the shore.

Showers and public rest rooms are clean and parking space are ample.

How to get there:
Take Highway 19 north from Kona toward the Kohala Resort Area. Turn left at Mile Marker #76. Turn left at the road across from Kings' Shops. Parking for the beach is at the end of this road.
